Our construction of reality is anchored in everyday objects, we attach emotions to them and build an understanding around it. Conceptually this can be toyed with, by playing with scale, material and context we can be suggestive, altering the personality or meaning of an object. In a state of hyper-reality where rules are bent and tactile possibilities are stretched what ideas or feelings can we evoke?
Tooth & Nail is a collaborative, site-specific, exhibition between artist and set designer Gemma Tickle and photographer Tais Sirote. By exploring the tangible possibilities of the hyper-real, the duo have created a collection of illustrative totems that subvert our urges and understanding. Using installation, constructed airbrushed images and lighting, the work challenges how we contemplate the dimensions of works, pushing for the viewer to seek out the nuances of joy.
